Dear Friends,
Spring is a season of renewal. For many of us, that
means rekindling our focus on health, whether
by resuming our jogs around the neighborhood,
taking full advantage of the many fresh fruits and
vegetables currently in season, or just spending
more time outdoors.
Here at Alamance Regional Medical Center,
we're right there with you. In this issue of
Well Now, you'll find helpful information about
staying healthy throughout the spring and summer.
On
page 5, read about heading off knee injuries.
Whether you're a "weekend warrior" or a young athlete in training, our
tips will help you preserve two of your most important joints.
Even for those who opt for less strenuous activities, the sun and heat in the
coming months can be harmful without the proper precautions. "Taking the
Heat: Sun and Hot Weather Safety" on
page 3 offers a range of tips to help
you protect your skin from sun damage, ward off heat exhaustion and stay
hydrated through the hottest months.

In addition to helping you preserve your health, we're always looking for
ways to improve care for our patients. This issue explains hospitalist care for
inpatients. This program, described on
page 2, helps ensure responsive and
efficient care for patients who must be admitted.
And finally, we're bringing you some helpful information about
perimenopause, one of the biggest transitions in a woman's lifetime. On
page 6, we explain some of the hallmarks of this life change and include a
number of proactive steps women can take to make the transition smooth.
Here's to a healthy spring and summer!
