Starting this November, Dr. Ali Sajjad will join the Maplewood Clinic as a rheumatologist.

A rheumatologist is a doctor who is qualified by additional training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and other diseases of the joints, muscles and bones.

Dr. Sajjad graduated from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, then completed further medical training in England. After moving to the U.S., he completed an internal medicine residency at Gundersen Lutheran Clinic in La Crosse and a fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Sajjad practiced general internal medicine in Wisconsin and Minnesota for 10 years. He is a member of the American College of Rheumatology. His academic activities include training rheumatology fellows at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.

In addition to working with patients who have rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and systemic lupus erythematosus, Dr. Sajjad has particular interest in the management of musculoskeletal conditions such as shoulder area and hip area pain. He also performs ultrasound guided injections for diagnosis and treatment of arthritis, bursitis and a variety of soft tissue rheumatism symptoms.

Dr. Sajjad reports, "I consider it a privilege to be part of a team whose primary goal is to help patients who are in pain and to limit their disability."
