Nursing Luncheon.

Recently three San Jacinto Methodist Hospital nurses were nominated for Excellence in Nursing by the Good Samaritan Foundation of Texas, Inc. and each received the Bronze Medal. Cindy Barefield, BSN, RN, CWOCN-BC; Elizabeth Heil, MSN, RN; and Kathleen D. Murphy, BSN, RNC, were recognized on Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Excellence in Nursing Luncheon held in Houston, Texas.

The Good Samaritan Foundation of Texas, Inc. created the Excellence in Nursing Medals to recognize nursing's "best and brightest." Nurses are nominated by their peers and selected by a distinguished committee of nursing leaders. Nominated nurses must demonstrate a passion for the nursing profession and exemplify excellence in teaching, mentoring, leadership and service. By rewarding exemplary teachers and practitioners, the Good Samaritan Foundation of Texas, Inc. is helping retain quality nurses in this vital profession.

Each year Gold and Silver Medalists are named in each of six award categories and receive a custom-designed medal. Nominating organizations sponsor table(s) at the annual luncheon, allowing their nominees and other outstanding nurses to attend.

"We are so proud of our nominees," says Janie DeStefano, Chief Nursing Officer, San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. "These three nurses show dedication and a true passion for nursing. Their nominations are a reflection of the high quality nursing care that can be found at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital."

Murphy is a nurse for the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Heil is a Manager for Nursing Resource and Barefield is a Certified Wound Care Nurse.
