Methodist Willowbrook Nurse Receives
Swadesh Khurana Endowed Fellowship

Wendi Froedge, RN, MSN, CCRN, educator of Critical Care Services at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, was awarded the 2011 Swadesh Khurana Endowed Fellowship in Stroke Care, established in 2008 by the Khurana family of Houston to honor the memory of their beloved mother and wife.

Methodist Willowbrook Hospital received Silver Aware recognition from the American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® program for its excellence in Stroke Care.

The fellowship is awarded annually to a deserving applicant based on his or her unique and research-based plan to advance stroke care at the hospital. Froedge was awarded the 2011 fellowship for her proposal to further stroke education by bringing a nationally recognized speaker to lecture on ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke to the Methodist Willowbrook nursing staff. The lecture provides a high-level educational offering regarding the navigation of the brain and spine and the intricacies of stroke care.

"I am honored to receive the Khurana Fellowship in Stroke Care and to bring a well-respected expert in the field of stroke care to Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. Advancing stroke care at Methodist is a priority, and I am proud to have this opportunity to take our program to a higher level," Froedge says. "We have an obligation to our community to provide advanced stroke care close to home, and the Khurana family and their contribution through this endowed fellowship is an inspiration to our staff."
