Robotic Technology Enhances Patient Care
at OhioHealth

Keeping up with the latest technology is one way that health systems like OhioHealth are able to enhance patient care. As a family of leading hospitals and other healthcare providers, OhioHealth has undertaken many efforts across our health system to provide quality care to our patients. One of the most recent is the acquisition of state-of-the-art technology that improves care.

For example, patients served by Grant Medical Center now have access to the benefits of the sophisticated da Vinci® Surgical System robot that previously was available in the OhioHealth system only to Riverside Methodist Hospital patients. This state-of-the-art robotic technology provides enhanced precision for surgeons performing certain minimally invasive surgeries, which in turn improves patient experiences and outcomes.

"Thanks to the precision, increased range of motion, improved dexterity and access, and enhanced visualization the da Vinci System offers, patients may have shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, less pain, less scarring and quicker recovery times," says urologic surgeon Roy R. Brown Jr., MD, at Grant Medical Center.

This technology, combined with the surgical expertise of OhioHealth physicians, provides patients with an improved surgical experience at more OhioHealth locations. OhioHealth now has three da Vinci Surgical System robots systemwide – two at Riverside Methodist and one at Grant. Currently, nine OhioHealth surgeons are credentialed to use the da Vinci Surgical System in four specialties: urology, women's health, gynecologic oncology and urologic gynecology.

"Expanding our robotic surgery program means that we are keeping on the leading edge of innovation and providing the most modern surgical treatments for our patients," says urologic surgeon John K. Burgers, MD, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Putting innovative technology to work to produce better health outcomes for more patients – that's how OhioHealth improves the health of those we serve.
