Daniel Lewis, MD, Medical Director of
St. Helena Clearlake Women’s Health Care,
is a board-certified physician in obstetrics
and gynecology.Caring for Every WomanNow, with the opening of St. Helena Women’s Health Care, women of Lake County have access to even more health care services, including infertility treatment and gynecologic surgery, in a convenient location. The dynamic team of doctors, nurses and a midwife at St. Helena Women’s Health Care provide personal, individualized care for women of all ages and in all stages of life. A New Face in Women’s CareDaniel Lewis, MD, Medical Director of St. Helena Clearlake Women’s Health Care, joined the team in February. He brings more than 30 years of experience with women’s medicine, including pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. With special interest and expertise in infertility, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and family-centered obstetrics, Dr. Lewis enhances the health care services already offered in the area."We have a very supportive and nurturing group of providers and hospital staff," explains Belinda Coppernoll, board-certified nurse midwife with St. Helena Women’s Health Care. "The staff is very dedicated, and patients receive very personal care." The Midwifery Model of ChildbirthCoppernoll came to the area in July 2009 with 35 years of obstetrical experience. She focuses primarily on providing mother- and infant-centered care to pregnant women in Lake County, which includes independently managing low-risk deliveries. As a professionally licensed mid-level practitioner, Coppernoll can perform medical procedures and order pain medications and epidural anesthesia when necessary. But her top priority is always to offer extra emotional support to laboring women in order to help them have a safe, positive and satisfying birth experience."We give women the tools they need to get through their labor in a very supportive environment," Coppernoll says. "My biggest reward is being there for the woman, nurturing her through her pregnancy and informing her about how to have an optimal pregnancy. Attending her at delivery is so rewarding. I follow them from the time they conceive all the way through delivery." While Coppernoll handles most low-risk pregnancies, Dr. Lewis and family practice physicians Kimberly Fordham, MD, at the Middletown Family Health Center, and Michael Shepherd, MD, at the Clearlake Family Health Center, co-manage the care of higher-risk women. "We do a great job of screening for high-risk pregnancies and ensuring they receive the appropriate care," Coppernoll says. Well Woman CareIn addition to birth and prenatal care, Coppernoll and Drs. Lewis, Fordham and Shepherd deliver a full range of women’s health services, including ultrasound, cancer screening and treatment, childbirth classes, maternity services, mammography, clinical breast exams, obstetrics and gynecology. Annual gynecological examinations are essential to women’s reproductive and general health, and they offer timely, reasonably priced gynecological exams, including birth control consultations and prescriptions, STD screening and treatment, and emergency appointments. To learn more about women’s care services and the weekly clinic for Spanish-speaking patients, call 707-994-2030 or visit www.shhclearlake.org.
