Medical Team in Place for St. Helena's New Cancer Center

This fall St. Helena Hospital will unveil the Martin O'Neil Cancer Center to provide convenient access and a complete team approach to treating many types of cancer. Depending on the cancer diagnosis, new patients may see multiple cancer specialists in one location and have their care expertly coordinated by the center's staff. The construction of the cancer center was made possible through generous donations from the community.

The multi-million dollar cancer center will have some of the latest, most sophisticated technology available for diagnosing and treating cancer. It will also provide a comfortable and convenient home base for patients and their families. The patient experience will focus on complete, whole-person care and support services, including a dedicated care team for each patient that includes a nurse navigator, a patient experience guide and specialists in nutrition, exercise, and psychosocial and spiritual counseling.

Key services will include:

  • Radiation treatment with the latest Varian linear accelerator and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy that shapes radiation beams with pinpoint accuracy to treat tumor cells and spare healthy cells.
  • Medical oncology and multi-station chemotherapy suite designed to accommodate family and friends.
  • A formal clinical research program affiliated with a National Cancer Institute-accredited academic medical center that will give patients access to a large number of clinical trials.
  • A patient restoration and therapy spa incorporating massage, relaxation and other therapies to address emotional and spiritual well-being of the patients.
  • A retail boutique featuring products specific to the needs of cancer patients.
  • A cancer resource library
  • A large, comfortable healing environment with a water wall and hope tree sculpture.

Meet Our Cancer Center Medical Leaders

The Martin O’Neil Cancer Center will provide a multidisciplinary, team approach to care so patients have access to highly experienced physicians who specialize in medical oncology, radiation oncology and many other specialties such as surgery and urology.
